Three young faculty members were awarded prestigious Starting Grants from the European Research Council (ERC). These grants support young investigators in establishing their own research teams and conducting independent research. The grants fund € 1.5 million for a duration of five years and are awarded to promising researchers with 2-7 years of experience after compleition of their Ph.D. The ERC chooses the researchers on the basis of their research proposal and scientific achievement.
The TAU grantees are Dr. Pablo Blinder from Neurobiology, Dr. Tal Dvir from Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, and Dr. Irit Gat-Viks from Cell Research & Immunology. Dr. Blinder's research focuses on understanding the physiology and structure of the neurovascular interface under normal and pathological conditions. Dr. Dvir runs the Laboratory for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine and uses nanotechnological strategies for engineering complex tissues. Dr Gat-Viks uses genomics techniques to study the intracellular networks involved in the pathogenesis of autoimmune and infectious diseases.
The European Research Council also awarded 25 Advanced Grants to Israeli universities, and TAU received twelve of these grants for established researchers.
