The Mediterranean Scrub Section
This section is dedicated to the most common plant formation in the Mediterranean Climate zone in Israel: the Scrub, or Woodland.
The Mediterranean Scrub is characterized by dense vegetation, ruled by trees and tall shrubs that have rigid and thorny leaves - Sclerophyll vegetation. It is a result of long-term evolution in the presence herbivory and long dry season.
In the Scrub we can also find many climbers, and at the clearings among the shrubs - we'll find geophytes and other herbaceous annual plants, that together form the typical spots in the Scrub.
the most common plant community in the Israeli Mediterranean Scrub is composed of Palestine Oak (Quercus calliprinos) and Eastern Turpentine Tree (Pistacia terebinthus ssp. palaestina). In rainier areas or in North-facing slopes sometimes you can find the Moist Mediterranean Scrub , where there are trees from Northern origin.
