The Desert Section
The Desert Section represents areas where there is up to 200mm rainfall a year.
In the desert section you can find plants that grow in the most arid regions in Israel, where there is less than 200mm annual rainfall.
The small amount of percipitation, together with strong sun radiation, soil salinity, extreme temperature changes and uncertainty of the wet season, make the desert environment to a very harsh habitat. only plants with unique adaptation can handle the rough desert conditions.
These adapations include morphological and physiological changes, some of which you can see when you take a walk in the desert section. The White Weeping Broom (Retama raetam) and the Mitnan (Thymelaea hirsuta) are two species that are characteristics of this habitat.
