The Shruberry is a phase in stage in the line of Succession of the Mediterranean woodland.

In this section, the shrubs control the view - such as Spiny Broom (Calicotome villosa), The Mediterranean Buckthorn (Rhamnus lycioides), Phlomis viscosa and Greek Sage (Salvia fruticosa).

One of the traits that characterize plants in this section is thorns - many of the plants are thorny, to protect themselves from herbivory. this is an evolutionary trait, evolved while living many years in areas of animal pasturage.
