Meet the People of the ICCR

Prof. Marcelo Sternberg

Prof. Marcelo Sternberg
Head of the Institute of Cereals Crop Research

Prof. Marcelo Sternberg is an experimental ecologist interested in the effects of human activities on natural and agricultural ecosystems. Within this topic, he addresses questions covering global climate change, biodiversity, plant ecology, ecosystem functioning, and agro-ecology.

In particular, he is interested in the development of ecological research using experimental approaches to tackle the challenges of global climate change.

Mrs. Sofi Klausner

Research assistant and seed collection manager

Topic of research/activity:  My work focuses on the management of ICCR germplasm collection, including sorting, multiplication and phenotyping of the seeds. I am also responsible of plant growth in field nurseries, net and greenhouses.

Nir Sade

Dr. Nir Sade

Topic of research/activity:  Crops molecular physiology. Our lab research is focused on understanding the mechanism of crops adaptation (with emphasis on cereals) to abiotic stress. More specifically, we study the effect of abiotic stress on agricultural traits such as water movement and carbon/nitrogen allocation.

Dr. Evsey Kosman

Topic of research/activity:  He devises strategies to tackle diverse subjects within Population Genetics, Ecology, and Conservation. His focus extends to Plant Protection and the Population Genetics of Plant Pathogens. The varied approaches encompass the measurement and breakdown of genetic, functional, and phylogenetic variability across different levels of biological organization and various spatiotemporal scales.

Dr. Anna Minz-Dub

(Coordinator of Genetic and Genomic Research at Tel Aviv University's Institute for Cereal Crops Research)

Topic of research/activity: My research focuses on exploring the genetics of disease resistance in wheat. I am interested in mapping of beneficial traits in wild cereals and transferring them to cultivated cereal crops. My work seeks to translate this knowledge into practical solutions for genetic disease control in agricultural systems.

Arava shatil

Dr. Arava Shatil Cohen
Head of Transformation Center, Tel Aviv University, Institute for Cereal Crops Research.

Topic of research/activity: Her research focuses on novel approaches to enhance wheat and other cereal crops transformation and genome-editing technologies. This includes improving wheat transformation efficiency in different wheat cultivars, as well as developing wheat-specific genome editing tools. In addition, we collaborate with wheat researches and companies and give services of transformation and editing.
