Strauss Center for Computational Neuroimaging
The Alfredo Federico Strauss Center for Computational Neuroimgaing has gone through tremendous developments, including the acquisition of a new Siemens Prisma 3T human scanner. Previously the center focused on rat and mice imaging to study the brain. However, now that human scans are possible, the center's researchers can get a clearer picture of what's going on inside the human brain.
The scanner is currently the world's best human neuroimaging scanner and is capabale of exceptionally high temporal and spatial resolution. The image quality is enhanced by gradient performance of 80 milliTesla per meter (mT/m) combined with a 200T-per-meter-per-second slew rate. The scanner residing on the campus of Tel Aviv University brings the 30 groups of imagers unparalleled abilities in terms of human structural and functional neuroimaging.
To accommodate the new human scanner, the center has expanded and now includes new testing rooms for behavior, two of which are ready for EEG (electro-encephalography) and TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation). The console itself includes all required equipment for the best functional imaging including an NNL LCD screen, Current Design response boxes, and EEG and BioPac ready for physiological data collection.
The new human scanner is one of only 10 systems installed world-wide and will ensure years of the best possible data collection. This research will lead to more effective treatment for neurological, neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders.
