Learning Zoology

The study of animals from many different aspects is the thread that connects among all the fields of research at our School. We study the lifestyles of many different species in a variety of habitats – from sea sponges to desert mammals.

We aspire to understand how they are built, function and behave; how they survive in their natural environment; and what are the services that humankind can benefit from them (such as the development of new pharmaceuticals, animal-inspired technology, animal functions as bioindicators of pollution and more.)

To promote these aims we employ a variety of approaches and tools, including laboratory experiments, field monitoring, genetic methods, computer modelling and more.

Some of the research carried out at the School focuses on particular taxonomic groups (fish, corals, birds etc.), while other research engages with defined, broader studies of various groups.
