Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR)

This method involves attaching one interacting partner to the surface of a sensor chip, and then passing a sample containing the second interaction partner over the surface.

Binding of molecules to the sensor surface generates a response which is proportional to the bound mass, and can be monitored in real time.

Applications

  • Interaction specificity

  • Interaction kinetics and affinity

  • Drug discovery

  • Antibody characterization

Requirements

Advantages

  • Real time measurements

  • High sensitivity

  • Quantitative method

  • Relatively high throughput

  • Sensor chips can be reused
