Power outage in Life Sciences buildings - 6-7.10.2026

The Engineering Division will be carrying out work to install radiation shielding in the electrical transformer room located on the ground floor of the Sherman Building.

To facilitate this work, a power outage affecting non-essential systems will take place in the following buildings and complexes on October 6–7, 2026. The outage will begin on October 6 at 7:00 am and continue until the work is completed, which is expected by the end of the day on October 7, 2026:

1. Sherman Building

2. Britannia Building

3. Green Building

4. Animal Facility

5. MRI Unit

6. Smolarz Building

Key Points:

• Essential power (emergency power) will continue to operate normally throughout the duration of the work.

• During the power outage, there will be no computer network connectivity in the building (neither via wired nor Wi-Fi networks).

• Most sensitive scientific equipment—including freezers and refrigerators—are currently connected to the essential power supply and is therefore expected to continue operating without interruption.

Although there will be no network connectivity within the building, it will be possible to connect remotely via VPN to the university’s central computing systems (such as HR, ERP, and other core systems) without relying on your office/lab computer.

Instructions for connecting via VPN will be provided to you separately by the faculty’s computing unit.

Remote work will be possible during the activity.

Once the work is complete and the Engineering Division announces the restoration of power, we ask all researchers—or their representatives—to visit the laboratories and verify that all equipment has returned to full, proper operation.
