Update to the Website Hosting Policy for Researchers/Laboratories/Institutes at Tel Aviv University
Important Update for Faculty Researchers: Transitioning Lab and Institute Websites to the WiX Platform to Ensure Global Accessibility
In recent years, and particularly during the war, we have witnessed a significant increase in cyberattacks against academic institutions, government infrastructure, and other Israeli targets. Due to these threats, Tel Aviv University is occasionally required to implement active defense mechanisms on the campus network, which include blocking access to university services from outside of Israel.
To ensure your academic and research activities continue to be globally accessible without interruption, there is a simple solution that maintains information security while guaranteeing full availability: transitioning to the University's WiX platform.
Several years ago, the University partnered with WiX to offer a platform for building lab, researcher, and institute websites at discounted rates. The major advantage of this platform is that the sites are hosted on the WiX cloud rather than on campus servers. This means that even during emergencies when access to university services from abroad is blocked, your websites will remain accessible to anyone in the world without any restrictions.
Policy Change Effective June 1, 2026: Starting from this date, the creation of new promotional, lab, and institute websites will only be permitted on the University's WiX platform.
Recommendation for Existing Sites: We strongly encourage all researchers in the Faculty whose websites are currently hosted on campus servers to migrate to the WiX platform. It is important to emphasize: in the future, should the security need arise again to block access to university services from abroad, websites that have not migrated to the cloud platform will be blocked from outside Israel along with the rest of the campus services until the restriction is lifted.
