Brain Disorders and Neurodegeneration

 

Brain disorders, including neurodegenerative diseases and neurological disorders, are conditions that affect the brain and the spinal cord and involve changes or loss of structure or function of neurons, astrocytes, and microglia. They can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, infections, injuries, and environmental factors. Some common brain disorders include Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Multiple sclerosis and Stroke. Unfortunately, we do not have any therapy or cure for any of these diseases.  To understand the mechanisms that lead to these diseases and to develop new therapies and diagnoses, brain disorders are heavily studied by members of the school from the molecular level to clinical trials with patients using state-of-the-art techniques including transcriptomic, electrophysiology, and microscopy.
